Boulder Women: Guest speaker & climb with Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala!


Join us for Boulder Women Wednesday 16th November to hear from and climb with Sri Lanka’s first person to summit Mount Everest!

Jayanthi is visiting NZ as a guest speaker for the IWG World Conference for Women in Sport. She will speak at Northern Rocks from 6:30pm and then climb with us – an amazing opportunity for our girls and women!

Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala is a women’s rights and LGBT rights activist with 18 years of experience in the field of women’s rights and gender equality. She holds a Master’s Degree in Gender Studies from the University of Sussex in UK, and a post graduate diploma in Women’s Studies from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. In 2016, she became the first Sri Lankan, and first Sri Lankan woman to summit Mount Everest.

In recognition of this achievement, from 2016-2019 she was appointed the Goodwill Ambassador for Women’s Rights by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in Sri Lanka. In 2017, she was also included in the BBC’s list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world. As an independent consultant, she is currently a Co-Creator of ‘Delete Nothing’ – an online platform aimed at addressing online gender based violence in Sri Lanka.

She is also the Chairperson of the Sexual Harassment Complaints Committee of the Sri Lanka National Olympic Committee.
